i love it when stuff like this happens... shirt from season 2 of fullbleed... new taking back sunday shirt (no i didn't design it) oh well, happens all the time. anyway, i can't believe how much i've been slacking with this thing as of late. i've been pretty occupied with the book i'm working on with some talented writers which will see it's release sometime in 2007. season 4 of fullbleed should be done within a few weeks (i hope). the first few designs are already looking pretty dope. a few weeks maggie and i auditioned to be contestants on GSN's lingo, i think we failed miserably. maggie and i have all the personality in the world but are both socially retarded and when put in front of a video camera we both freeze up. when we watch the show at home we totally kill it and solve the puzzles within seconds, meanwhile at the audition we both froze when asked to say a 5 letter word starting with "T". pathetic. i think the only thing that may have won us points was our DIY chuck woolery t-shirts. bands i've been enjoying lately... controlling the famous the format russian circles the forecast and did anyone see the recent dateline specials about busting online predators? how about that dude who wanted the 14 year old girl to fingerbang her cat with coolwhip? amazing! only thing that would make it better is if the ultimate warrior or the undertaker confronted the perverts rather than a white dude in a suit. watch the clip here.

Tsk, tsk, Taking Back Sunday. First the crappy music, then the ripping off Rob Dobi's t-shirt concepts.

Does your insidiousness know no bounds?

that sucks about the TBS shirt. for our high schools literary magazine, some kid submitted one of your full bleed designs and added some stuff to it as a submission for the cover art and then claimed it as his own. luckily someone caught it before they decided to use it. what a jackass.

Can you do something about them stealing your design? Like when authors claim some other author plaigerized them?

Wow, that's pretty bad, mostly because instead of at least stealing it and trying to improve on it they made a far worse design.

The Format's new album is great, I concur.

the tbs design is different enough that it's definitely not stealing. what, is no one supposed to use barbed wire ever again? c'mon.

it's ironic that they would copy that shirt. isn't the title of the shirt your own disaster, that being the title of a taking back sunday song.

nope, "my own disaster" which is a small brown bike song. anyone who doesn't know every word to dead reckoning sucks.

I was actually just poking around on merchdirect and saw that exact shirt and thought "dobi", then I came here to check if you did any new shirt designs and found out it wasnt yours. What a bastard.

i dont see any big deal about the TBS shirt...its almost nothing at all like your fullbleed shirt...it may have been inspired by your shirt...but it's far from copying it...remeber rob...theres a huge difference between inspiration and plagiarism

While I agree there is a big different between inspiration and plagiarism, this is clearly plagiarism. The idea, the people, the coloring, too alike to not have been copied. I'm almost insulted Taking Back Sunday doesn't know Dobi's work though.

nowhere in his post did Dobi say "those fuckers stole my shirt down to the very last detail!".
but the fact is that they didn't simply get inspired by an idea. they took the entire concept of someone jumping to their own demise into a pit of barb wire... or something (not exactly a very commonly usealld concept), including the silluette design - the cliff, the people and the barb wire are black just like in Rob's shirt.
If it was like, a shirt for The Kronos Quartet or Jay Z then I might say "its just a similar inspiration", but Taking Back Sunday isn't exactly out of the radius of where Dobi's t-shirts would have influence.

Besides, we're talking about Taking Back Sunday. Is there any disagreement about the fact that they aren't very original and.... fucking blow?

the most beautiful part is that the people in the shirt are probably from a photo from google images

so i finally got myself to read this entire thread of comments. design isn't ink on paper, ink on cloth or a heap of steal called a building. design is a thought. it's the same thought on both t-shirts. i'll stop there.

/dr.

tell me more about your book.
